The last boat still docked was, as far as I knew, Flannery’s. It had been so damn long since I’d seen the thing. Off-white, with blue accents. Or cyan. There was a ribbon of faded rose pink paint wrapped around the hull. A peeling decal adorned the starboard side of the craft: “R _ I S I N”. For as long as I can remember that decal was missing a letter. I always thought “RAISIN” was a stupid name for a boat. The thing was a real piece of work too, probably more fitting of it’s dried-up namesake than I initially imagined. It must have been months since anyone had even thought about the damn thing let alone tried to start it up. Nevertheless, I climbed inside. The weathered leather seats crackled under my weight. It took little more than a quick peek around to tell me that this was a long shot. Between the peeling paint, rusted out steel, and steadily leftward list I knew I had my work cut out for me.
Call it the HMS Last Resort.
Keys. Keys. KEYS. I patted both pockets the way you do compulsively right before an Irish goodbye.
Shoot. Try patting again.

One song that The Avalanches sample heavily in “Since I Left You” is The Main Attraction’s “Everyday.”
The actual line in the original song is “since I met you.” The Avalanches changed the title without actually altering the sample, letting our preconceptions correct the mistake for us. As per Genius.
This got me thinking of the people I met after high school who have become big parts of my life. Mainly because everyone I knew before doesn’t have like a definitive first day we met kinda thing.
The number one guy is Jason. We have shared many things creatively and personally since we met and that is because, like, I think we were meant to know eachother.
